Hey,RR, been a while. How it going? I have had some crash training recently in PIC lines. My 8 year old has a severe igA defficiency. He gets pnumonua regularly (his record is 10 times in a year). His Dr decided the hospital was more dangerous for him than home so they sent us home after a week with an iv machine, two huge sacks of ceftapene and merrum (sp? on those), and two kinds of flush fluid. Right now I am waiting for the thing to beep after the second anti., so I can flush it and unhook. Two weeks of this, then another 5-6 weeks of oral antis, then back to his usual one evey day ( bactrim). First night I slept little wondering if I had gotten all the air out of those lines, but now I pretty much have it figured out. Can stop on the side of the interstate and change the meds. Getting quite a pile of 60cc syringes and smaller ones. Every day 6 big and 9 small ones empty. In the hospital it was nerve racking as he is alergic to ceftin, but they de-senstized him so he has another option now. Also alergic to Penn. All the good respratory meds he is alergic to.
RR, do you still have your for-sale page? If so email me the link please. Thanks, Carl.

Well, I survived two weeks with the pic line. More importantly Matt survived. To top it off the DRs nurse screwed up the line when she changed the bandage so it stopped taking the med. We took him back to the office (150 miles each way) and got that fixed, leaving one day of meds remaining. Guess who got elected to remove the line after the 2:00 pm meds today. I made it without even passing out. I can use an IV machine and maintain a pic line now with the best of them. Even had to teach one nurse how to apply CoBan to it. That is great stuff btw.

Congrats Okie:

There's no training like OJT training, but I am sorry it had to be on your own little one.

I hope he's doing better.

Stay Safe,

Okie, ya done good. These things aren't rocket science. They only require attention to detail and a bit of orientation. Of course we aren't talking about *installing* the PIC line but it's amazing when you think of how so many simple things required tieing up a hospital bed in years past.

Oh, I hope you saved those large syirnges and cleaned them out good. They make great squirters! :D

I went through a box of alcohol swabs and a bottle of purell in two weeks. Chased so many air bubbles I dreamed about them.
They had to take him to the OR to put it in, he has had so many lines his veins are all scared up.
I saved all the syringes as they are handy in a wood shop. Mailing the machine back today, good ridance!
BTW, RR, that black on dark red is really hard to read.

Okie, it's your user settings rather than the board itself. Go to User CP, select Edit Options and scroll down the list until you reach Style Set near the bottom. Select "default" and you'll find a much easier to read slate blue/gray tones color scheme.
