In 1983 the Hesperian Foundation came out with the classic book Where There Is No Dentist. The book is aimed at third world caregivers who lack formal training. It also happens to be the only book available covering the subject of austere dentistry. Though reprinted as demand dictated it was never updated. At least not until 2002.
Now accompanying the book is a 32 page bonus chapter covering HIV/AIDS and Care of the Teeth and Gums. The information is basic but nevertheless useful, and can easily transfer to caring for patients with other bloodborne pathogens as well since the techniques are similar if not identical in virtually all cases.
