Rather than rehash my 2cents worth, you can read all about it on Frugalsquirrels in the medical forum.
It wont hurt you (in moderation, it's alcohol, after all)
The directions on making it are there too.
Or, you can by a commercial product called Sambucol (?) that has the extracts.

I can't resist sharing the humor I see in elderberry discussions.
"It won't hurt you" -- unless it's elderberry wine made by 2 little old ladies in Brooklyn - named Abby and Martha Brewster.

"Oh, Teddy, bad news, there's another yellow fever victim."
Bully! I'll prepare to go to Panama to dig a new lock!

LOL, I forgot about that.....
Of course, I said moderation.
IJ here is a really good article with about 42 references to lab and double blind tests that were performed on Sambucol (the original lederberry extract stuff). It explains really well what it does and how it works. http://www.herbalgram.org/files/pdfs/elderberry-scr.pdf Then go to Frugal's on the Survival Medicine Forum and read Elderberry FAQ. that tells you how to do-it-yourself (if you can still get any dried elderberries that is). They have been going VERY fast these last few months. If you STILL have questions after digesting those 2 links, ask and I'll try to answer.
Irish, I just moved the Elderbnerry FAQ here as a new thread and it has the link to herbalgram so you get 1 stop info.
