Here is the link to an outstanding site that promotes the health of children through suitable rehydration and avoiding needless death caused by childhood dehydration.

http://rehydrate.org/index.html

Worldwide acute dehydration causes approximately 3.5 million (yes, MILLION) childhood deaths per year, particularly in developing countries. It is not unknown in the US by any means as vomiting and/or diarrhea can cause a child to become acutely and even dangerously dehydrated in a matter of hours.

Searching the site you will find recipes for homemade rehydration solutions. Worth printing out and placing in your recipe index as well as your medical reference files.

Hello, Rascall.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I caught a post on ORS when someone sent me a related email.

It is tragic that so many children die from something as simple and treatable as dehydration.

As another post said, in some countries a visit to a clinic may be a once in a lifetime event for a child, so they try to hang onto the kid long enough to fill him / her with vaccinations.

Meantime, in the US, healthy and quite over weight kids backtalk parents for not buying the latest in 256 color graphic Super Mario.

We should be so lucky!

Be well. And drink plenty of fluids.

This is just what I was looking for today. Both of my girls have mild diarrhea today. So I was looking for how to make a rehydrating solution to put in my files for when and if rehydrating solutions are not available so readily.

There is a lot of good info on this site about latrine guidlines, water purification and such. Worth a look!!
