Greetings all,
I have just now joined this forum.I have a question about the ingredients of a laxtive
that a friend shared that her family doctor
suggested she use because of her problem with
constipation and his instructions were to mix one part 100% pure vaseline Petroleum jelly to four parts applesauce heat this mixture stirring well then take by the table
spoon full as needed by the individual by trial use. This has been used by this person
for eight to nine years with good results.
My question to this board is this remedie
harmful to a person's health.Thank's in advance for your response. hiawatha

I can't comment on this remedy (except that if it's working...)

Didn't doctors and mothers used to give a tsp or so of castor oil? I think that, or perhaps mineral oil is a stool softener. As a plumber might say "goes right through".

My old pediatrician (probably long since retired) used to suggest jumping up and down for constipation in pediatric patients.

This is the same pediatrician who suggested home made cough syrup of equal portions honey, lemon, and whiskey. Of course, applied in tsp doses, hic!

I do believe there are a lot of highly effective home remedies.

Being new to the forum, I find myself perusing old threads. As a nutritionist I would like to comment on this remedy. I would avoid using any petroleum based product i.e. vaseline, mineral oil dietarily. Petroleum products are xenoestrogens and are many times stronger than normal estrogens. In fact they can block the absorption of normal estrogens. Olive oil is a good substitute. In the Middle East olive oil is considered 'medicine' that should be taken daily. Based on personal experience, its amazing how effective a quarter cup taken at night before bedtime is for backed up plumbing! BG
