Gentlemen.

I refer you to a board on which I moderate where a poster has listed some interesting things about "surviving the upcoming pandemic" with reference to H1N1. Some of the things just don't "sit well" with me, however I freely admit my medical training consists of basically applying bandages (first responder).

The user is "Miker12".

My concern is that he is presenting himself as something within the medical community he is not. Granted, he could very well be knowledgeable on this stuff via other means, but I am unsure of the ethics involved in saying your a paramedic while doing so.

Anyone here have any comments on it that I could possibly refer to, though I suspect my doing so would be considered as equally "non-informed" as his might be, and only "well, I had some friends tell me..."?

(or feel free to sign up and post...as long as you don't personally attack the other members, then you're good. Pointing out errors in factual information isn't considered an attack...that is name-calling, etc.).

I read through the column and find myself fighting the urge to laugh aloud at this guy.

Many years ago, as in back in "79/"80, I worked with a guy who touted himself as a "paramedic instructor." His qualifications? He'd taught CPR to a class of paramedic students. NOT that he was himself in any way qualified to the title of Paramedic, because he wasn't. He'd never trained beyond the basic EMT level, but in his world teaching basic CPR to a class of paramedic students made him a paramedic instructor.

His postings scream "poser" to me. Sorry i can't be more specific right now but my brain is only semi-functioning - I'm between sleep shifts in preparation for my regular week of 12-1/2+ night shifts.

thanks for the info...I was pretty sure this guy was a poseur, but since I am out of my lane on this stuff, wasn't certain.
