View Full Version : Expedient Antibiotic Production
Before I scan too much of this in, I want to make sure everyone can read it. Please fetch and give me some feedback.
As to alternate production production vessels, I would think the 5 gallon water containers found on water coolers and used by home brewers might be pulled into service.

Good way to make ETOH, in any event...
The document did mention converting breweries for abx production...

umm - no. I'm getting an "unable to move/copy file" error when trying to upload the attachment. This error seems to have about 3 causes, all related to server configuration. I'm taking it up w/ RR. Sorry to be a tease.

Lets see if this works. I uploaded it to a file sharing site. see if you can fetch it and read it.

I've got the body of the book scanned in now. Still have the appendix's to go (the actual "how to make antibiotics"). It's about 115 more pages, but if anyone wants a bit more to read now - I could upload what I've got for you.
It's going to take a while to finish scanning the rest of this.

I got to page 140 and acrobat wouldn't let me add more pages. It looks like I'm going to have to create a separate pdf for the last 40-45 pages.
I noticed some pages kind of washed out. If there are any that need a re-scan, please post page numbers here.
Anyway, here is most of the document:

Well, this is annoying. Even after a reboot, it's not letting me scan anything - just gives the same error message. This will take some troubleshooting, and possibly re-installing some software to fix. It could be a while before I'm able to get part 2 up.
Sorry about that,

Outstanding find! - I found the original ref on the DoE citation server, but there was no full text linked. Didn't think to go to ORNL, directly. There are only about 6 libraries in the country that have a copy - I was lucky enough to find one that would loan it and I copied it. Could have saved me a lot of time scanning.
On the second ref - it's a subscription service. If you get a copy of the pdf, I would love to get a copy.
thanks!

That second ref is just a review of a russian book on antibiotic manufacture. Book looks interesting, but I think its in russian - but I cannot seem to find the original book - but I will keep looking.

Scanned that too briefly - was thinking it was the actual book - and yes, I'd say it's in Russian. I wasn't able to find a copy either, though I'm thinking that eithor Victor Kaplan Booksellers could locate a copy (in Russian) or there was a branch of the US GVMT - the print side of FBIS, sho's name excapes me right now that would have translated something like this.
I did, however find 2 other documents while looking for it, that look interesting:

Author: United States. Agency for International Development. Communications Resources Division.
Publisher: Washington, D.C. : Dept. of State, Agency for International Development, Communications Resources Division, [1962]

(4 US libraries have this book)

Philippines : Philippines pharmaceutical industry development study : technical report : manufacture of antibiotics through fermentation.
Author: V Gallo; UNIDO.; UNDP.; Philippines.
Publisher: Vienna : United Nations Industrial Development Organization, 17 Apr. 1989.

this is odd - while WorldCat dosn't list all libraries, I've never seen this kind of reply before.... they list it so SOMEONE has it, and it's a UN document, so....
