For those of you who may have a PDA, or are on the line about buying one - lots of good stuff for med types out there.

Epocrates qRx - a very comprehensive Rx Drug Database (free) Epocrates.com

Epocrates qID - a nifty infectious disease program that works w/ qRx - provides recommendations for various infectious diseases/conditions (free)

MedCalc/MedMath - useful calculators for determining all kinds of stuff (FENA, Cr Clearance, etc.) it also allows you to review as it shows the equations used - both are very good, but prefer MedCalc.

Take a look at PDAMD.com - lots of stuff. some freeware, some commercial/shareware.

A Document reader - anything you can acquire as a text file can be converted for viewing/editing on the palm

Adobe Acrobat reader - view pdf files on your handheld.

Add to this the ability to add wireless modems/links to cell phones, GPS, etc.. on certain models, and you can have a lot of data at your fingertips.

I currently use an older Palm IIIxe, but I am going to upgrade to a Sony Clie in the next year. You can find a decent PDA easily under $200 now (Sony Clie 360 -16mb onboard memorty plus memory stick port is less than $200 just about everywhere - works pretty well & has a good software bundle)

Definitely worth a look.

I'm very interested in the PDA database concept. Seems like a very convenient way to store and have accessible a great deal of medical reference info.

eMedicine.com seems to offer a lot of very wide application PDA programs - some free for DL'ing, others for a fee. It has me thinking. IIRC there are even bio-chem references available now.

I have a Palm PDA and love it. I have the epocrates programs along with several others. Convenient, small sized, and hold a ton of info! I would recommend getting one.
