Herbal Remedies for Increasing Milk Supply

A substance that increases your milk supply is called a galactagogue. Some of the most commonly used herbal galactagogues are fenugreek, blessed thistle, and alfalfa.

These herbs should be avoided while nursing. They have been known to decrease milk supply.

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)
Lemon Balm
Oregano
large amounts of Parsley (Petroselinum crispum)
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Periwinkle Herb (Vinca minor)
Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Sorrel (Rumex acetosa)
Spearmint

Birth control pills are also well known for decreasing milk supply, particularly the ones
that contain estrogen.
