View Full Version : Thats Gotta Hurt...
OK, male or female patient, what is it, where is it, and speculate on possible outcomes:

I'm going to hate myself for doing this but here goes.
Male, foreign object in the urethra, and possible outcomes would likely be calci in the urine. Meanest looking kidney stone I have ever seen.
Or, it could be an ordinary fractured penis....
RR
I'd guess male, turkey thigh bone inserted rectally and broke inside.

Anyone notice how he has effectively told us to go into the round room and stand in the corner and wait. ;-)
Tangent's reply seems plausible. I could not for the life of me figure out the possible origination of the bone.
RR
Female
Rectosigmoid area
Dog femur, confirmed by vet
Inserted in "religous ceremony" by lesbian partner
Fractured, perfed bowel, would not come in until septic, died in ER.

I am soooo embarassed. But then I guess you could say she apparently died from embarassment so I can't feel tooooo bad.

I guess someome might ask me for the details. While I was taking my EMT class (which I didn't pass), the teacher told us a story from his ambulance career. It involved a frying pan, a woman with epilepsy and a man with penile lacerations.
I'll tell you the story if someone asks.

RESQDOC;
EEEEEEEEEEEEE! Oh My God! She died?
Some years ago one of our residents told us about a Radiologist in Dade County that had an extensive collection of X-rays, of people with different FBs in their sigmoids.
The worst one I ever heard was the snake skeleton in some guys bladder. YUK!
later, this thread is creeping me out.

Uh, I know I am a newbie and all but that photo is male by the rami and the soft tissue shadow surrounding the "Bone". The small bowel gas pattern is normal and there is no clouding suggesting an air fluid level from a septic sigmoid. The sigmoid is evacuated and not seen. The bone placed anterior to the penis when the radiograph was taken is a fowl due to the lack of radiolucency and is not a dog femur due to the lack of a femoral head. One of the more common jokes that X-Ray plays on the staff. IMHO. Have a few real xrays around if not thrown out but anything that is not tied for removal and is inserted past the sigmoid travels upward. The patient presents usually humped over and refuses to talk to any but the MD.The worst of objects I witnessed have been the old roll-on "Tickle" antiperspirant bottles and a 16 oz. "Cola"
bottle. The bottle created suction so they had to burr a hole in the bottom to be able to retrieve it before it went to the top of the flexur (open surgery then). The staff went on about "a coke and a smile" and "the real thing" for months after that one. Regards RM
'Fraid not.
This photo is from a case that came into the Dade Co. ME's office while I was there.
The rami could be male, but are within limits for female.
The soft tissue shadow is one of dual shadows of prominent labia.
The vet consulted by the ME said it was a dog femur, who knows.
The PM had been initiated before radiographs were done (a big screw up actually) and the GI tract opened and suction evacuated before this was found.
Lesson learned: don't go in the out door.
Well, that makes it more plausable as PM's change the whole picture. Would explain the poor antique grid effect I wondered about as well. As trained one view onlies with weird findings usually run high on the "Taint" meter. Thank you sir, RM
Ya, it is a crappy view, and the online thing degrades it even worse.
You are very welcome here, please please please get some regular cases & teaching files up!
