View Full Version : Autodefibrillators
Just got back from recert on ACLS/NRP. I saw the latest on AED's. Great device, just one comment. The price is around $2500. Now, by looking at this thing, it looks like it should cost about $69. tops at WalMart. Also, it seems like maybe we should start selling them at Wally world for $69, then we could start having some serious life saving going on.

I really liked the little presentation they gave citing that the Chicago PD, who carries the AEDs, had a higher save rate then Cook County Hosp. I went to that ACLS class in the Caymans last year. I think your right about us selling these at Wally World.

you should see the one I got.......25K. The little SAED's are cool and useful for first responders as they are most likely to save lives with them, they have early response and can therefore provide early defib.

One of the Hospitals evaluation groups was looking at placeing AEDs around the hospital. I was wondering how many Airlines, Police departments carry these?
Anybody have any ideas?
thanks

I don't know of any hospitals that routinely have them placed in hallways. Most hospital floors have them on crash carts.
I've never seen a AED on any crash cart. Usally have the newer Monitor/defibulators with the external pacers. In smaller Hospitals, where no Docs are in house, the ICU Nurses run the codes as they are usually the only advanced trained personnel. Not all personnel can use a standard defibulator, but can use a AED. So these would be used in those cases, but may or may not be kept on the crash cart.
They are inexpensive and have been proven to be a viable alternative.
