Part of judging the validity of any article or information is knowing it's source. Thus unpublished observations from a source on the ground carries one kind of validity, an official AAR from the team commander carries another, a peer reviewed joural article another, etc. All can be sources of valuable info, or garbage, depending on their own intent, axes to grind, political situation, etc.

ALL postings of material other than origional contributions by the poster MUST have a source listed, even if it "personal communication of unpublished material" so that we can better judge it's value.

I agree,if we want quality and reliability of the content,listing the source is a must.

We have for the first time in history the ability for anyone to broadcast their version of medical science information literally world-wide. The only requirement is that they have access to a computer and the internet. No peer review process, no proof of research, and in some cases no moral restraint.

Anyone can claim to be anything by merely opening a website, or posting to an open bulletin board or list. Without references and/or citations we have no ability to check the veracity of the information touted. Having them available allows us to determine for ourselves whether the info is legit, and if so, then whether it is worthy of further consideration. Mere presense on the net of information does not automatically confer validity.

To borrow from some one else:

No quality, no control. Know quality, know control.
