I'm getting ready to start a EMT-B class using the orange AAOS Emergency care and transport book (8th edition) and I was wondering if the work book and study guide were something worth getting??

I'm also looking for a computer/palm pilot(sony)based quiz and data base that would be handy to have.

Not to mention any other recomendations on recources I can use to study and help me pass the national regestry test at the end of class. I'm medically challenged (stupid) so any and all ideas will be a great help.

The old orange book has come a long ways since I used it as my textbook. Much earlier edition. The workbook would be useful as a study aid, a way of forcing the info to sink in. I'd go for it.

JEMS Communications may have a Nat'l Reg. study guide available through their bookstore, might give them a look. Look for Journal of Emergency Medical Services magazine.

I can't comment on the AAOS study guide as I've never seen it. Perhaps ask the instructor if they feel it to be useful.

Maybe we should start a study buddy forum? :disturbed

Feel free to ask, guys (or gals if any are reading this). More than a few people here who can be resources for you. I had a an instructor's copy of the Orange Book somewhere. Might even run across it again one of these days.... :???:

This is the best medical fourm I've been able to find on the web and you can be sure I'll be lurking in the dark reading and trying to learn what little I understand for now.

More than likely I'll be driving everybody nuts asking all kinds of newby questions:D :D

Thank you! Some of us were once new EMT's also. The good ol' days. No net, no experienced fellers to ask questions of, and Johnny and Roy were still running calls.

This board was started because someone wanted a wide range of medical info that wasn't targeted strictly at docs, nurses or whomever, but more of an intermingling of minds willing to share. Doesn't matter if you are Sally Housewife or Dr. Doubledoctorate, Esq., this is common ground.

As you look around you may find articles written to address academics, and others to explain to a Boy Scout how to perform basic first aid. The strength here is in the diversity of skills and training and the willingness to share with others of all levels. We even allow non-medical chat, in the Wart Talk forum of all places. ;)

Please, feel free as I say to use this board as a resource. We all learn as a result.
