Infectious Disease/Isolation:

1. Cloth washable surgical masks – for you and/or patient to wear.

2. Soap – Lots and lots and lots.

3. Gloves – high strength trauma grade gloves that withstand washing and reuse.

4. Gowns - either cases of disposable or washable cloth. Coated synthetic material resists fluid penetration and can be cleaned with care, representing best overall compromise. Knit cuffs offer greatest protection vs. elastic cuffs.

5. Protective eye wear - goggles, safety glasses or face shields. Protection of eyes from splashes, squirts and flying debris. Used in conjunction with face masks provide significant physical protection against introduction of infectious material to the various areas of the face.

6. Gloves - cheap, indespensible. First line barrier against exposure to infectious material. Reusable gloves can be found but offer less flexibility/dexterity. Require re-powdering for reuse. Nitrile offers excellent dexterity, low risk of dermal reaction and store better when exposed to heat (tropics) over extended periods.

1. N95 particulate masks: filter out bad bugs that a regular mask will not stop.

2. Negative air flow room: forces air outside of the building instead of leaving it in. Good for airborne disease safety.

3. Culturettes: anaerobic, aerobic swabs-to try to figure out what critter is causing the problem so more targeted therapy can be used.

10. Bleach - common household bleach for disinfecting walls, floors, etc. Gallons of the stuff.

11. Flowers of sulfur - mentioned in another thread this would a good way to discourage pests from the area of the clinic. Not to be applied to patients but for area pest control.

12. Mosquito netting - doesn't matter whether we are talking about the US, Africa, Asia, Central or South America, et al, we will have seasonal problems with mosquitos. Preventing infection borne by insects in patients who may already be compromised with other illnesses or injuries can go a long way towards recovery.

Bleach good...

Phisohex or similar surgical scrub (even betadine) by the gallon for prepping materials, patients and practioners...

Now, cases of Triseptin scrub....goes a long way in cleanin' the ol'hands before procedures!
