Heh everyone, been lurking the board for awhile now and have enjoyed the posts I've read over. Right now, I'm looking for some sources of information on what to do in case of medical emergencies out in the woods.

Any book recommendations or websites would be great. As it is, I wind up hiking / backpacking with groups where we get pretty far away from civilization, and it would take up to a day or more to get someone back to a hospital. Obviously then, at least stabilizing the person and prepping for transport is going to be required to be done by members of the group. Most situations would be broken bones or strains, cuts and abrasions, and head trauma with a possibility for hypothermia and exposure problems.

All input is welcome, I look forward to reading over more of the threads on this board.

For you I would start off with "The Wilderness First Responder" by Buck Tilton. Great info, easy to get your head around. When you master this we'll suggest some others.

Speaking of mastering this, there is no way you can master it without doing it - in other words supervised teaching and frequent practice. Find a Wilderness First Responder, standard First Responder, or Red Cross Advanced First Aid class in your area. Inexpensive and not too long or intense.
