That is, do you or dont you need a prescription to buy from overseas pharmacies? Is it legal to buy from one overseas without a prescription?

Some countries do not require a doctor's Rx. Many do, like Canada and for the most part Mexico.

US law allows you to import up to a 90 day supply of medications for your own use. That is it must be shipped to the person named. You cannot order your mother's blood pressure medicine sent to your address or in your name.

The pharmacies that require an Rx will have you either fax or snail mail same. From there it is a matter of their particular policies.

The countries that do NOT require an Rx may ship your medication but it is possible - how likely I cannot say - that Customs may seize it because it wasn't properly documented. My understanding is that the great majority of shipments come through unscathed.

The most authorative answer to your questions would be contained in the manual available from this site:

http://e-pharmacy.md/

The author lists pharmacies that are reliable, the procedures, the laws and also has the forms required to document everything so there is the least chance of any problems once the meds come into the country.
